COVENANT INVADES THE USS HORNET FOR WGD
Covenant were the headlining act on the USS Hornet in Alameda California Saturday May 4th as the bay area alternative scene celebrate World Goth Day (officially on the 22nd). The Swedish EBM Synthpop band performed along side local and international acts (most less electronic based) on the 82 year old steel vessel for the 4th gathering of a festival put on by the Menagerie Oddities Market.
At one time this historical Naval carrier housed 2600 officers and enlisted men. Today it serves as an Air and Space Museum but also a haunted and unique event space. The Hornet is one of the most haunted ships and offers official ghost tours with countless eerie tales. There is even a website for people to send their experiences that is maintained by the Pasadena California Institute of Technology.
The festival offered different tiers of entry, but it was well worth it to get the all access pass which included both main and local stages, access to the goth & oddities market, a fashion show, ship tours, paranormal activities and entertainment on the flight deck and dock.
For those still left standing after sunset, the afterparty was at The Fireside Lounge. DJ’s Miz Margo, Polly Eurethane, and Tom Axe spun goth favorites capping this unique bay area goth fest. We can’t wait for next year.
Honorable mentions to local Industrial act Flesh Industry for complimenting the lineup with their hard industrial sounds and Vague Lanes’s emotionally dazzling performance. For those not familiar with Mike Cadoo of Gridlock and N5MD record label’s post punk project, it is a worthy discovery with a highly anticipated follow up to their 2022 release Foundation and Divergence.
